SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (WNAX) – Following a report on student standardized test scores, members of the Government Operations and Audit Committee of the South Dakota legislature voted to set up a special task force to oversee the Department of Education.
Senator Jack Kolbeck of Sioux Falls outlined what the subcommittee should investigate.
Kolbeck says they need the report before the legislature convenes in January.
The motion came after Department Secretary Ben Jones was questioned about the test scores that have been flat for the last three years.
Kolbeck says it is a critical issue.
Representative Chris Karr of Sioux Falls said no business would accept those type of results.
The three-member subcommittee will be Chaired by Representative Sue Peterson of Sioux Falls.
