SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The complete Arc of Dreams now gracefully rises over the Big Sioux River in downtown Sioux Falls.
The second half of the stainless steel arc was installed on Thursday. The installation was briefly delayed by a big storm with high wind, but once the storm roared away, the work crews got back at it.
Officials say it is strongly anchored on both sides of the river, 20 feet into solid quartzite.
The Arc towers 70 feet over the river between 6th and 8th Streets with an 18 foot gap between the two branches.
“The Arc of Dreams is the SculptureWalk capstone, recognizing and elevating this art program to national prominence,” says Sculpture Walk Founder Jim Clark. Clark says the arc symbolizes what Sioux Falls is – a unique and thriving city on the prairie.
The arc was created by sculptor Dale Lamphere, for a project that started as a dream years in the making and now is a reality.
