ABERDEEN, S.D.(Grand Forks Herald)- According to multiple sources, Fargo is working on a deal to bring longtime North American Hockey League coach Scott Langer aboard.

Langer has been with the Aberdeen Wings in the NAHL for the past five seasons, leading them to the Robertson Cup as league champions in 2019. He was named the league’s coach and general manager of the year in June.

Prior to Aberdeen, Langer spent nine years in Topeka (NAHL) and three years in Santa Fe (NAHL).

The Force’s head coaching position has been open since Grand Forks native Pierre-Paul Lamoureux stepped down earlier this month after leading Fargo to the United States Hockey League’s Clark Cup Final.

Up until now, every head coach in Fargo’s franchise history has had UND ties: Dean Blais (UND head coach, assistant coach), Steve Johnson (UND player), Jason Herter (UND player), John Marks (UND player, assistant coach), Cary Eades (UND player and assistant coach) and Lamoureux (UND student coach).

While Eades left the bench in 2019, he has remained as the team’s general manager.

Langer does not have any UND ties.

Recently, other USHL teams have hired from the NAHL, though.

Earlier this month, the Lincoln Stars hired Rocky Russo from the Amarillo Bulls. Last summer, the Sioux Falls Stampede hired Marty Murray from the Minot Minotauros.
