PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The Government Operations and Audit Committee of the South Dakota legislature normally monitors the financial status of state agencies and gets regular reports.

David Flute, Secretary of the Department of Tribal Relations, appeared before the committee last week. He had earlier told committee members that his department was not able to construct a report due to the lack of records they could find.

Flute told the committee that relations with the states tribes are complicated.

Flute says his department is working with sovereign governments.

Flute says its hard to put those efforts in a spreadsheet.

Flute told the committee they would have a more complete report next month.
