Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State Athletics and Director of Athletics Nate Davis announced today the addition of Clayton Randall to the NSU staff, as the Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. Randall will begin his duties full-time with the Northern State Athletic Department on May 6.
“Clayton’s diverse work experiences and knowledge of Northern State, along with the relationships he has built in the area over the past two decades, really set him apart in the search process,” explained Davis. “He is a Northern State alum with a passion for Wolves Athletics, and a skill set that will serve our department well. He will be a strong addition to our administrative team, and I can’t wait for him to get started. We are excited to welcome the Randall family back to Northern State and Aberdeen.”
Randall’s role will focus primarily on the Northern State ticket operations, including season tickets, special events, corporate sponsorship agreements, and athletic fundraising initiatives. In addition, he will assist with game and sport administration for the department. Randall will serve as the tournament director of the Annual Wolves on the Water Fishing Tournament scheduled for May 31-June 1, 2024.
“Northern State University is a special place because of the people, along with the community and regional support,” described Randall. “My wife and I are excited to get back to Aberdeen and NSU, a place that has provided our family with so many wonderful opportunities and experiences. We look forward to doing our part to continue to move Northern State University forward, along with being members of the Aberdeen community.”
Randall joins the Northern State staff after seven years as a high school administrator, teacher, and coach for the Herreid School District and Herreid Selby Area Sports Coop. As the district’s athletic director, he was part of a group that completed upgrades to the football field and complex, school gymnasium, and weight training facilities. As a football coach, Herreid Selby Area reached the semi-finals four times and finished as the South Dakota High School Activities Association 9-Man runner-up in three of his seasons at the helm. Randall was named the 2021 9-Man Region II Head Coach of the Year. On the hardwood, he guided the Doland/Conde Chargers to a State ‘B’ Basketball Tournament appearance in 2005-06.
He opened his professional career teaching and coaching in the Doland and Eureka school districts. From 2008-17, Randall moved to the business sector as a self-employed contractor operating Randall Construction and as a remote sales representative with Heartland Payment Systems.
Randall received his bachelor’s degrees in business education and business finance from Northern State University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in leadership and administration. Clayton and his wife Holly, a Northern State alumna, will reside in Aberdeen with their children Remi and Sullivan. They are also the parents of 2024 Northern State graduate and Wolves football alum Clayton Randall II, who was honored as the 2023 NSU Homecoming King this past fall.
