PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- It’s National Ag Week and today is National Ag Day.
According to date from the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the state ranks fifth in the nation for both the number of beef cows and the number of calves raised.
South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association President Eric Jennings says agriculture drives the state’s economy.
Jennings says cattle production is one segment of the agriculture industry, but it’s not the only one where the state’s farmers and ranchers excel.
In South Dakota, there are about 5 head of cattle for every one person living in the state.
This year’s National Ag Day theme is “Growing a Climate for Tomorrow.”
