PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- The sd511.org suite of tools often get used to check road conditions during winter months; however, many people don’t know they can use those same tools to find road construction information.

South Dakota Department of Transportation Pierre Area Engineer Dean VanDeWiele (van-da-willy) says the SD511 mobile app and website services are both available for free.

This is National Work Zone Awareness Week and VanDeWiele encourages people to participate in “Go Orange Day” today.

This is National Work Zone Awareness Week and this year’s theme is “You play a role in Work Zone Safety . . . Work With Us.”

Again, folks are invited to show support for highway construction employees tomorrow by wearing orange apparel and posting photos on social media using the hashtags #NWZAW, #Orange4Safety or #SDDOT.

SDDOT has created construction themed coloring sheets, crossword puzzles, and word finds for youth, families or elementary school classrooms to use to promote safety awareness.
