Thune not interested in running for president

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KCCR) – By this time next year America will be in the midst of the 2020 Presidential campaign. As of late September, 19 Democrats are running to challenge Republicans.  Republicans have President Donald Trump and three others who have officially declared a run for president. In previous campaign years, another name connected to a presidential bid was South Dakota Senator John Thune.

Thune says it’s not in the cards this year.

Thune says he’s ready to work with whoever is president to benefit South Dakota.

Thune’s name has been floated around before in presidential talk. In 2008, Thune was mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate with John McCain. In 2012, Thune was encouraged to seek the Presidency by then Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Thune stated when asked about a run in 2016 that his window for a presidential run closed in 2012.
