WASHINGTON, D.C. (WNAX) – The federal deficit is forecast to total more than $1 trillion by the end of the fiscal year in September. Total federal debt is now estimated to top $22 trillion at the same time.
South Dakota Senator John Thune says the debt is taking up more and more of the economy.
Thune says the issue will have to be dealt with no matter who wins in November.
Thune says the debt and deficit have been ignored by both parties for too long.
The $4.8 trillion budget just released by the Trump Administration calls for a balanced budget by 2035.
