WASHINGTON, D.C. (WNAX) – Senate Republicans and Democrats reached agreement on continuation of the filibuster as part of the Democrats taking majority control. The Senate is split 50 – 50 and Vice President Kamala Harris will be the tie breaker as President of the Senate.
South Dakota Senator John Thune gave a floor speech talking of the importance of maintaining the filibuster.
Thune says the Senate reflects popular sentiment now in the country.
Thune says he hopes Democrats live up to their agreement.
Thune says ultimately, both sides will have to relearn how to compromise.
