YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – As part of National Fire Prevention Week, the Yankton Fire Department held its annual open house Wednesday night.
Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickles says the onset of cold weather this week will have lots of people turning their furnaces on for the first time.
Nickles says people will also soon be hanging up outside holiday lights.
Nickles says the fall back to standard time early next month is also the time to check your smoke detectors.
Nickles says taking a few minutes now to check out potential issues around your home could prevent lots of damage later.
