Tips provided for winter safety

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Now that snow has hit the Black Hills area in force, the Rapid City Fire Department is emphasizing safety for the coming months.

RCFD Public information officer Tessa (Yea-ger) Jaeger says now is a perfect time to make sure your home heater isn’t a fire liability.

Jaeger added these kinds of fires are more common than the public may think.

Along with heaters, Jaeger also highlighted how to prepare your vehicle for the winter.

This week’s snowstorm saw Rapid City Police swamped with calls for vehicle assistance or accidents, meaning a vehicle emergency kit can be crucial if officers aren’t able to immediately respond.
