Tips to prevent packages from being stolen

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- “Porch pirates” is a term used to define an individual that steals delivered packages off people’s doorsteps. Now more than ever, it is becoming a problem for residents statewide and nationwide.

KXLG News spoke with Detective Jeremy Bjerke, a twelve-year veteran with the Watertown Police Department, to learn more.

It may be worth the investment in a video doorbell service.

There are multiple reasons to follow this simple but important tip.

This action is illegal; under $400 is the first misdemeanor tier, $400 – $1,000 is the second tier, and over $1,000 is a felony crime which can be easy to reach that amount around Holidays. Bjerke also says if you think a package is missing, always call the delivery service quick first. At times it’s a mistake from the driver or in shipping. That easy first step can save you and the WPD time.
