Tom married Rondi Dresbach and together the couple raised five children; John, Greg, Beth, Joey, and Jenny. Tom worked for years at Olin Flax Straw and in 1983, he began his career with Utne Construction, where he demonstrated his strong work ethic and dedication. Tom was never one to shy away from hard work and took pride in the jobs he did.
In 1992, Tom met Robin Phillips and welcomed five more children to the family; Tynna, Jessie, Sarah, Nicole, and Damon. The couple blended their families and enjoyed 34 years of traveling, camping trips, and attended threshing b’s all over the state.
In 2016, Tom began experiencing health complications that slowed him down, but his determination kept him going. In 2018, he began working at Walmart until further health concerns eventually led to his retirement.
In his younger years, Tom purchased property on Blue Dog Lake, a place that would forever hold a special place in his heart. He loved lake life and the countless memories made there with family and friends. Whether fishing, camping, relaxing by the water, or simply enjoying the company of those around him, Blue Dog Lake was one of his favorite places to be. Sadly, in 2010, the cabin was destroyed by a flood. Tom’s love for the lake never faded. He continued to return, camping and enjoying the familiar surroundings and special memories that made Blue Dog Lake feel like home.
Tom also had a special love for the Black Hills. He enjoyed traveling west, taking in the beautiful scenery, and appreciating the peacefulness and freedom of the outdoors. The Black Hills held a special place in his heart, offering him the opportunity to enjoy nature, explore, and embrace his adventurous spirit. He enjoyed doing things his own way, never needing much more than the open road, a day at the lake fishing, or the company of family and good friends to find happiness. His love of fishing, camping, traveling, and the outdoors reflected his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Tom will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends. From the peaceful waters of Blue Dog Lake to the beautiful Black Hills, the places he loved and the memories he made will forever be a part of his story.
