PASADENA, C.A.(KELOLAND)- Travel South Dakota received the Americana Award for its float in the 137th Rose Parade on Thursday.
The award recognizes the “most outstanding depiction of national treasures and traditions,” according to a news release from the South Dakota Department of Tourism.
The float, named “Carved in Stone; A Legacy of Teamwork,” featured the Mount Rushmore National Monument from the Black Hills and the Dignity: Of Earth and Sky sculpture near Chamberlain. It also had more than 40,000 floral elements, including corn, wheat, sunflowers, iris petals and palm bark.
“This award is a testament to the incredible teamwork behind the float and to the iconic landmarks and cultural treasures that make South Dakota an unforgettable destination,” Tourism Secretary James Hagen said.
It’s been 10 years since Travel South Dakota had a float in the parade.
“Carved in Stone; A Legacy of Teamwork” was designed and built by Artistic Entertainment Services.
