Malsam-Rysdon says patients often diverted to other facilities

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe says their hospital in Eagle Butte had to send two coronavirus patients out of state recently due to lack of space in state hospitals.

Health Department Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says patients are often diverted to other facilities.

Malsam-Rysdon says local demands often lead to patients being moved around.

Malsam-Rysdon says state hospitals still have enough room and services.

The two patients from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe were sent to a hospital in Burnsville Minnesota.
