Trust funds for Medicare could fall short of expenses by 2028

Trust funds for Medicare are projected to fall short of expenses as soon as 2028. That would mean Congress would have to step in and either cut benefits or increase revenues.

South Dakota AARP State Director Erik Gaikowski says there will need to be intervention sooner or later.

Gaikowski says they continue to try to educate citizens and Congressional representatives on the issues and solutions.

Gaikowski says many politicians don’t want to talk about Medicare and Social Security.

There are concerns that the budget plan passed by House republicans could lead to potential future cuts in Medicare insurance coverage.
