Tukesbrey Named “Voice Of The Wolves”

Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State University Athletics and Hub City Radio announced today that David Tukesbrey will serve as the next ‘Voice of the Wolves‘, the play-by-play announcer for the maroon and gold. Known to his listeners as ‘Tukes’, Tukesbrey fills the vacancy left by Ben Root and joins the Northern State sidelines after seven years as the ‘Voice of the Saints’.

Tukesbrey will lead the charge for the Fox Sports Aberdeen broadcasts of all Northern State football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball contests, as well as select volleyball matches throughout the fall.

Tukesbrey opened his Hub City Radio career in August of 2015. He is the morning show host on Point FM (106.7) from 6 a.m. – 12 p.m. and hosts “The Sports Hub” on Fox Sports Aberdeen, (1420AM) from 10-11 a.m. each day. In addition, fans can catch him from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Pheasant Country (103.7).

Tukes is a 3-time recipient of the Eric Sevareid Award and has added multiple other broadcasting honors for his work with Presentation College over the years. He won the Sevareid Award for sports play-by-play in the small market radio category in 2018, 2020, and most recently 2022. In addition, he has been recognized by the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association, earning first place honors. The MBJA covers a six-state region: South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

A native of Libertyville, Illinois, Tukesbrey attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Electronic Communication from the William and Mary Diederich College of Communication. As un undergrad, Tukes was the Sports Director at Marquette Student Radio and broadcasted for the men’s and women’s basketball teams. In addition, he traveled around the country with the women’s soccer team as the Voice of the Golden Eagles.

Following graduation, Tukes opened his career at 620 WTMJ in Milwaukee as a Producer. He was the first broadcaster on WISports.com, calling play-by-play for local high school athletics. WISports.com was a new platform on the Packers, Brewers, and Bucks flagship station in Tukesbrey tenure.

He moved to Sisseton and served one year as the Sports and Program Director for KBWS, before joining the Hub City Radio team. Tukesbrey has been calling play-by-play since 2005; broadcasting football, basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and hockey.

Tukes resides in Aberdeen with his wife, Jackie and daughter, Lucy.
