Two School Records Broken For NSU Swimming

Sioux Falls, SD (NSUWolves.com)  – The Northern State University swim team opened the Augustana Invite with three Wolves advancing to individual finals and four relay teams in competition. The Wolves tallied two top-5 finishes and broke two school records on day one.

WOLVES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Haley Osborneopened the finals session for NSU taking 14th in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.14
  • Lilly Grebnernotched the top finish for the women as the runner-up in the 200 IM, hitting the wall in 2:06.53
  • Guusje Van Lent raced to a fourth place finish in the 50 free with a time of 23.61; her prelims mark of 23.52 landed her an NCAA B cut and the Northern State school record
  • Grebner followed in the top-25 of the 50 free with a time of 24.31
  • The 200 free relay team of Van Lent, Osborne, Mia Fursedonne, and Grebner broke the Northern State school record with a time of 1:37.50 in 11thoverall
  • Following close behind was the crew of Hilary Sonnabend, Annalisa Olsson, Brianna Back, and Georgy Turnerin 19th with a time of 1:41.65
  • Northern closed out the opening day with a top-25 finish in the 400 medley relay from the team of Maddie Gonzales, Sonnabend, Alexia Hoven, and Van Lent notching a time of 4:08.58

BEYOND THE RESULTS

  • Hilary Sonnabend’s prelim 50 free time of 26.01 was a personal best for the freshman, before setting a personal best in the night cap with a time of 25.76
  • Van Lent broke the 2018-19 record of 23.91 in the 50 free set by Northern State National Champion Hannah Kastigar
  • The previous 200 free relay record of 1:37.55 was held by Fursedonne, Marialuisa Avila, Delaney Ryken, and Connor Doran set back in 2021-22
