PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A Ukrainian woman who moved to the US over 20 years ago is working to help residents in her war-torn birth nation. Nataliya Rezek has been a Pierre resident for 11 years and says her career as a nurse with Avera Medical Group and concern for family are driving her efforts.
Rezek’s efforts started small, asking for the donation of one’s coffee money with a goal of one-thousand dollars. After 10 days, the amount donated so far is nearing 10-thousand.
Rezek says the Russian military is targeting supply trucks and even some Red Cross vehicles making care packages and supply shipping not possible.
Rezek says nightly, people in her home town head to cold bomb shelters under the wail of air-raid sirens in fear of Russian missile attacks. The full interview with Rezek is posted with the story online at kccrradio.com along with a link to Rezek’s Facebook page with links to donate money.
