PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Pierre’s brand-new drinking water treatment plant, along the shores of Lake Sharpe on the Missouri River, is supposed to be pushing fresh treated water into Pierre’s distribution system by the end of October. October ended Monday.
City Administrator Kristie Honeywell says the 38-million dollars plant has been ahead of schedule during most of it’s construction.
City officials had talked about two major flushes of the water system before the plant comes on line. Honeywell says a second flush won’t happen.
Construction on the plant started over two years ago in August 2020. Pierre voters approved construction of the plant with 73-percent of the June 2018 vote.
