Update on state’s plans for America’s 250th birthday

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The America 250 South Dakota Commission has been working to help South Dakota get ready to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States.  In addition to Walk 250 by 2026 and a collaboration with the University of South Dakota on the Indian Citizenship Act, the Commission is looking to set up a Library Book program.

George Seaman with the State Library says summer reading in 2026 will have a distinct 250th theme.

Seaman says the will be among other things non-fiction reading challenges as apart of the effort.

The group is meeting again on Wednesday August 7th.
