PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- This week’s crop progress report from the US Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service doesn’t look good for South Dakota’s spring wheat crop.
Spring wheat heading is at 50%, which is ahead of the five-year average pace, but 68% of the crop falls into the fair, poor or very poor categories.
USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says South Dakota isn’t alone in having a low condition rating for the spring wheat crop.
