USDA to introduce new rules on hemp

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WNAX) – The USDA is introducing new rules that will establish what the department called a consistent regulatory framework around hemp production in the United States. USDA Undersecretary Greg (eye-baw) Ibach says the interim final rule on industrial hemp will be published in the federal register on Thursday. Interstate shipment of hemp may not be prohibited from a state that lawfully allows the growing of it.

He says USDA’s rule on industrial hemp only applies to states where the crop has been approved.

Ibach says under the USDA rule, hemp testing will be done at a registered DEA lab.

Following publication of the interim USDA rule on Industrial Hemp, there will be a 30-day public comment period.
