Utilities to use rebate funds to build electric vehicle charging stations

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (WNAX) – Several electric utilities in the state will be using rebate funds to build electric vehicle charging stations.

The state will use over $400,000 dollars from the federal Volkswagen fraud settlement for the charging stations.

Ben Pierson, Manager of Beneficial Electrification for Sioux Valley Energy, says they will build a charging station in Sioux Falls.

Pierson says drivers should be able to get a quick, cheap charge at the station.

Pierson says several utilities will be building similar stations along the interstates.

Pierson says they hope to open the charging station by next summer. Other charging stations will be built in Watertown and Brookings along I-29 and in Mitchell, Chamberlain, Murdo and Wall along I-90.
