Game 1 Recap

ABERDEEN, SD- Casey Vining hit a three-run homer, and picked up a win on the hill as the Aberdeen Smittys  push past Post 15 West 16-3 in game one of  the double dip. Vining hit a towering home run over the left field wall  in the first inning to set the tone. He finished 1-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored in game one. 

The Smittys broke the game open entirely with a  10 spot in the second inning.  An  error scored a run, Vining drew a bases loaded walk, plating another. Zane Backous hit a two-run single, Brendan Livermont had an RBI groundout, Talan Dutenhoeffer doubled, to clear the bases.  Drew Salfrank and Cooper Eisenbeisz doubled later as well scoring a pair of runs.  

Vining not only was dominant at the plate but on the mound as well. He earned the win with a line of six hits and only three runs over five innings, striking out six and walking four.

Salfrank led the Smittys going 3-for-3 . It was a bounce back performance all around in game one, as the team had a great eye at the plate, drawing 10 walks and really played some  clean defense.  They didn’t commit a single error in the victory.

Game 2 Recap

No, this was not a football game at Fossum Field for game two. Both teams combined for 31 runs and 30 hits! 

The Smittys trailed 9-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth and had a comeback on their mind. Aberdeen struck for three on solo blast from Casey Vining, a RBI single from Jackson Welke, and an error.

Vining hit another home run the next inning, and the Smittys put a five spot to get back into the game, However SF Post 15 West answered with seven runs the final two innings. 

In two games, Vining threw a complete game, picked up a win on the mound, and was 3-for-6, (3 home runs), eight RBI’s, five runs scored, and walked three times in nine plate appearances.

Aberdeen in two games scored 30 runs and had 23 hits. With the split, they are 25-10 this season and have some time off.
