PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem issued an executive order instructing the state Department of Education to review teacher training, content standards and other educational material to make sure they don’t contain any “divisive concepts” on race.
Wade Pogany, Executive Director of the Associated School Boards, says the issue is the same that was defeated in the legislature this year.
Pogany says there is an existing process to develop curriculum for state schools.
Pogany says the executive order is sidestepping the process.
Pogany says local school boards will have the final decision on what is taught to their students.
