Walworth County Commissioner wants an oversight committee of the Sheriff’s Department

MOBRIDGE, S.D.(DRGNews)- A Walworth County commissioner is proposing the formation of an oversight committee for the county’s Sheriff’s Department.

During their Oct. 11, 2023, meeting, Sheriff’s Deputies John Abshire and Talese Aucoin spoke about how they, and the department, are treated poorly by the commission.

During this week’s meeting, Commissioner Scott Schilling said he and local attorney John Von Wald should be appointed to the oversight committee.

Sheriff Josh Boll provided an explanation of what Schilling referred to as “courtesy rides”.

Acting Walworth County State’s Attorney Vaughn Beck suggested a third person be on the committee and Schilling agreed to have Deputy Sheriff Travis Bentz take that role.

The motion to appoint the oversight committee stalled due to a tie vote, so the commission will bring it up again at their next meeting.
