Watertown City Council take another step toward selling their Wells Fargo Building

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)–The Watertown City Council has taken another step toward dumping the city-owned Wells Fargo Bank Building on North Maple into the hands of a developer in the private sector.

On Monday, the council approved the authorization to advertise and accept bids to sell the building.

City Manager Amanda Mack recommended it happen through a sealed bid process.

City Attorney Lisa Carrico (kare’-uh-koh) explains how the process will play out.

The city bought the building for $1.3 million in November 2020 with the intention of remodeling it into a new City Hall. But those plans were scrapped when the only remodeling bid they received came in way over budget.

Meanwhile, the search for a new City Hall location continues.
