Watertown High School on lockdown Friday

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- On the second day of school, Watertown High School was placed on lockdown Friday morning after a report of a weapon in a school bathroom, a call that authorities and school officials believe was a hoax.

The Watertown School District sent an initial message to parents at 9:32 a.m., stating that the Watertown Police Department had received a call about a weapon shortly after 9 a.m. The district noted that while the call was believed to be a hoax, the high school was placed on lockdown as a precaution, and all rooms were being searched.

A follow-up message was sent at 9:46 a.m., confirming that the lockdown had been lifted. The area mentioned in the call was searched, and all rooms were cleared before the lockdown ended. The school has resumed its normal schedule.
