Watertown House Fire Update

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KWAT) – New information on last week’s house fire in Watertown that left two children in a Twin Cities burn hospital with second-degree burns.

Watertown Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Scott Jongbloed (jung-blood) said, “the fire is deemed accidental, and the ignition source is undetermined.”

The fire at 525 3rd Street Southwest was reported just after midnight on the morning of November 8th.

According to the Bruckner fundraising page on GoFundMe.com, the seven and five year-old girls, Harper and Charley, remain hospitalized.

A status report says, “both girls started coughing which is a good thing. When they cough, they are breaking up some of the soot and ash in their lungs so it can be “vacuumed” out.”

The girls’ burns are the more severe end of the second-degree burn spectrum, and future skin grafting may be necessary.

The GoFundMe page for the family has raised more than $62,000 from nearly 500 individual donors.
