Watertown man arrested for variety of charges

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KXLG)- According to Codington County court documents, Watertown man Robert Hagen, 48, was arrested on March 15, 2023, for multiple sex crimes and is now facing fifty separate charges.

Hagen’s charges include multiple incidents of domestic abuse, rape first-degree of an individual less than the age of thirteen, rape fourth-degree, victim thirteen but less than sixteen, aggravated incest, sexual exploitation of a minor, and sexual contact with a child under the age of sixteen.

On April 13, 2023, the defense received authorization on a request for a Private Investigator as part of a “Stipulation regarding Private investigator” agreement. Mitch Vilhauer of Groton, SD, was listed as the hire; the agreement states an approved wage of $75 per hour with a cap of $3,000.

A plea of not guilty was entered on March 22, 2023.

Two victims testified before a grand jury, and Hagen received multiple recharges by the Indictment.

Thomas Sannes is representing Hagen and has a status hearing set for May 17, 2023, and if no agreement is presented beforehand, a jury trial is scheduled for May 25, 2023. He is currently held in the Codington County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond and cannot have any contact with the alleged victims.
