Watertown Police Chief retiring in April

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)–Watertown will have a new police chief next month.

The current chief, Lee McPeek, has submitted his letter of intent to retire on April 9th.

Mayor Sarah Caron is recommending Assistant Chief Tim Toomey be elevated to replace him.

The city council will consider that recommendation at their meeting tonight.

McPeek has been with the Watertown Police Department for 27 years. Before that, he worked as a deputy with the Hand County Sheriff’s Office in Miller.

McPeek is a second-generation cop. His father, Laverne McPeek, also served as Watertown Police Chief before retiring in 1994.
