WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)–2023 was another busy year for officers with the Watertown Police Department.
According to their annual report released Monday, officers responded to 24,543 calls for service last year, which was a six-percent increase over the previous year.
There were 641 traffic accidents, which was down two-percent from 2022.
Watertown police did not investigate a single murder last year. However, aggravated assault arrests grew by a whopping 57 percent. There were 44 of them last year, compared to just 28 in 2022.
Theft investigations, which include shoplifting, also saw a large increase. There were 381 of them in 2023, which was up 27-percent from the year before.
