Watertown woman dead following meth injection

WATERTOWN, S.D.— A sad story out of Watertown on how drugs can claim lives.

Watertown police say they’re investigating the death of a 41 year-old woman who was injecting methamphetamine.

Police and medical personnel were called to the 10-block of 5th Street Southeast just after 2:30 Thursday morning on a medical distress call.

The woman was in full cardiac arrest. Lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful, and the woman was pronounced dead at Prairie Lakes Hospital.

Her name has not been released. An autopsy will be conducted.

Watertown Assistant Police Chief Tim Toomey says meth is always a concern, but when it’s killing people, the concern goes up.

Toomey says depending on what the investigation shows, criminal charges could result.

Anyone with information on illegal drug activity is asked to contact Watertown police or the Codington County sheriff’s office.
