CLEAR LAKE, S.D.(Press Release)- A Watertown woman has been identified as the person who died Friday, June 23, in a two-vehicle crash north of Clear Lake, S.D.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by Karen Schliesman of Watertown, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 212 near mile marker 400. A 2008 Peterbilt semi-truck, driven by Sergei Penrod-Curtis of Brookings, was westbound on U.S. Highway 212, also near mile marker 400. The Silverado pickup crossed the center line into the westbound lane and collided with the rear trailer tire of the semi-truck and came to rest in a slough.
Schliesman, 64, died from injuries she sustained in the crash. It has not been determined if she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Penrod-Curtis, 35, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
