Wayne Smith out as head coach of Roncalli boys basketball

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Jenna Ortiz Aberdeen American News)- Wayne Smith is out, and Rick Kline will coach the Roncalli High School boys basketball team for the rest of the season, Athletic Director Terry Dosch said Friday.

Smith coached in a Thursday night victory against Sisseton but is no longer with the team. It was Smith’s second season coaching the Cavaliers.

The move comes 13 games into the season. The Cavaliers are 4-9.

“We wish Coach Smith well, and Coach Kline will finish out the season,” Dosch said, but he didn’t elaborate.

Kline, who serves as the school’s development and marketing director, has his first game today as the Cavaliers head to Madison for the Dak XII Clash. He is a former Roncalli player.
