PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The South Dakota Department of Health kicked off the Wellness on Wheels program Wednesday in Pierre. The program has outfitted five vans as mobile heath clinics to serve under served and rural parts of South Dakota.
State Health Secretary Melissa Magstadt says the vans will provide a number of serves to places where those serves are difficult to get.
Magstadt says the Wellness on Wheels initiative will work with partner agencies to make a difference in the life of young children in the state.
The state is partnering with groups like HeadStart, Indian Health Service, WIC grocery stores and state agencies like the Departments of Social and Human Services. The vans begin service Thursday.
