PIERRE, S.D.(KBHB) — Earlier this spring, Governor Kristi Noem and fitness icon Jake “Body by Jake” Steinfeld announced three West River schools as winners of the Don’t Quit! Fitness Center Campaign.
The campaign awarded Custer Elementary School, Newell School and Sturgis Williams Middle School $300,000 dollars in fitness equipment.
Today, Sturgis held the ribbon cutting for their brand new fitness room.
Jake Steinfeld and Governor Kristi Noem were both on hand to encourage the kids to stay active and healthy by utilizing the equipment.
Physical Education Teacher Kristi Cammack helped the kids put together the video that won them the $100,000.
Governor Noem says exercising builds both physical and mental strength wants South Dakota to be a leader in teaching kids the building blocks to health and wellness.
Steinfeld, who chairs the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils (NFGFC), reached out to Governor Noem earlier this year about a public-private partnership to provide the fitness center equipment free of charge through the DON’T QUIT! Fitness Campaign.
