MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (WNAX) – South Dakota Farm Bureau Wetlands Specialist Wayne Smith spoke last week at a conference in Minneapolis about the group’s Wetlands Bank Exchange program. He says it’s in its infancy but has generated good interest from landowners. Smith says it’s one-way agriculture improves the environment.
He says a landowner who wants to restore wetlands on his property can exchange that wetland for credits.
Smith says it’s fairly simple for a producer to participate in the wetlands exchange program.
Smith says under their program, participants can sell their credits and receive 80 percent in return for that sale. For more information contact the South Dakota Farm Bureau.
