Wings Fall In Home Opening Weekend

ABERDEEN, SD (AberdeenWings.com) – [FRI] The Aberdeen Wings jumped out to an early lead, but ultimately gave up 5 unanswered goals to fall to the Bismarck Bobcats 5-2 Friday night at the Odde Ice Center.

Bennet Koupal was able to start the scoring on the power play at the 5:58 mark of the first period.  Kohnen and Ness assisted on the goal.  Leonid Bulgakov was able to give the Wings a 2-0 lead at the 7:03 mark of the period.  Winkler & Tishkevich assisted on the goal.  After that it was all Bobcats as they were able to score 3 straight to close out the 1st period with a 3-2 lead.  Hunter, Doll & Beaumont were the goal scores for Bismarck.

After a scoreless 2nd period, Bismarck would add a pair of 3rd period goals to come away with the 5-2 win.  Farren & Neu were the goal scores for the Bobcats in the 3rd.  Gage Stewart stopped 22 of 27 shots he faced in net.

ABERDEEN, SD (AberdeenWings.com) – [SAT ]The Wings fell behind early, battled back but ultimately fell in a shootout to Bismarck Saturday night.

Julian Beaumont put Bismarck on the board just 1:44 into the contest with an assist coming from Johnson.  Aberdeen would respond with a pair of goals coming from Matthew Wisener at the 13:51 mark, with assists coming from Tishkevich and Anderson.  Followed by Isak Holmstrom’s first goal of the night at the 16:25 mark with Backel & Sharun assisting to give the Wings a 2-1 lead in the locker room after the first 20.

Bismarck had an answer early in the 2nd when Tyson Smith tied the game, Johnson once again assisted.  Isak Holmstrom would get his second of the game with Sharun & Mackie assisting to once again give the Wings a one goal advantage.  Bismarck was able to tie things up at the end of the 2nd when Brendan Bottem scored his 1st goal of the season at the 16:22 mark, Beaumont & Rafalski assisting.

Aberdeen would once again jump ahead at the 6 minute mark of the 3rd with Leonid Bulgakov scoring an unassisted goal.  Things were looking good for the Wings, but Bismarck would once again answer.  This time at the 18:33 mark of the period when Kade Kohanski tied the game with Farren getting the assist sending the game to overtime.  After a scoreless 5 minute, 3 on 3 overtime period the game headed into a shootout.  Aberdeen was stopped on all 5 shootout attempts, Bismarck was able to get a goal from Patrick Johnson, their 5th shooter to get the additional point.
