Wings Go 2-2 To Open Season In Blaine

BLAINE, MN – (AberdeenWings.com) – Your Aberdeen Wings were able to complete a comeback with a late 3rd period goal to take game 1 of the NAHL Showcase in Blaine Minnesota 4-3 over the Corpus Christi IceRays Wednesday evening.

In the first period it was former Wing, Nils Forselius getting the scoring started with a shot from the slot that beat the Wings goaltender Stewart.  That was all the scoring in the period as both team were unsuccessful on their power play attempts, ABD 0-1, CCI 0-2.  Just 46 seconds into the 2nd period Anthony Cafarelli gave the IceRays a 2-0 lead with the assist going to Biedermann.  The Wings were finally able to get on the board at the 13:20 mark of the 2nd period when Isak Holmstrom was able to get his first goal as a Wing with Gravink getting the assist.  Corpus Christi would answer 3 minutes later with a Mathieu Bourgault unassisted goal.

With under a minute goal Logan Gravink was able to swing the momentum back in the Wings favor with a goal at the 19:11 mark.  Pollock assisted on the goal.  The IceRays took a 3-2 lead into the final period.  The 3rd was all Aberdeen as Simon Pollock was able to tie the game at the 5:36 mark, with an assist from Sharun.  Jaxson Murray closed out the scoring with a goal at the 13:48 mark, with Reim assisting.

The Wings were able to hold off the IceRays for the rest of the game fighting off a couple of penalties and an empty net attacker to get the 4-3 opening day win.  “The importance of staying persistent was a big deal today. It’s a good lesson to learn in day one. I thought we improved as the game went on and to get the first one at this showcase build confidence.” Wings Head Coach & GM Scott Langer.

BLAINE, MN – (AberdeenWings.com) – The Wings once again fell behind by a pair of goals early in game 2 of the NAHL Showcase, this time however they were unable to come back and fell to the Brahmas 1-5 on day two of the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, MN.

After a scoreless 1st period, Lonestar was able to get on the board with a Ivan Zadvernyuk goal at the 4:25 mark.  Ray Murakami would get an unassisted goal just over 4 minutes later to give the Brahmas a 2-0 lead.  Jaxson Murray scored his 2nd goal of the season in as many games with Kohnen getting the assist at the 17:10 mark of the 2nd period to make it interesting heading into the 2nd intermission.  However, the 3rd period was all Lonestar as they netted 3 more goals to take the 5-1 win.  Adam Dybal was in net for the Wings and stopped 15 of 20 shots faced.

BLAINE, MN – (AberdeenWings.com) – The Aberdeen Wings once again had to dig out of a hole Friday night against the Johnstown Tomahawks.  Lukas Klemm was able to get Johnstown on the board early in the first, with a shot from the point finding the back of the net just 1:34 into the game.  Bennett Koupal was able to tie things up 10 minutes later when he netted his first goal of the season with the assists going to Wisener.  Justin Rapp would get the only goal of the 2nd period to give the Tomahawks a 2-1 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.  Early in the 3rd Nick White would give Johnstown a 2 goal lead with the eventual game winner just 1:16into the period.  Logan Gravink would make things interesting down the stretch, scoring his 2nd of the year, at the 14:20 mark.  Assisting on the Gravink goal was Backel & Reim.

BLAINE, MN – (AberdeenWings.com) – The Wings fell behind early but came on late to take a 4-3 win on day four of the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, MN Saturday afternoon.

Adam Johnson was able to get things going for the Wilderness at the 11:40 mark of the 1st period.  Aidan Shirey would give Minnesota a 2 goal cushion late in the period.  The Wings would finally get on the board at the 5:46 mark of the 2nd period when Riley Sharun scored his first goal of the season with Holmstrom assisting.  Adam Johnson would get his 2nd of the game just over a minute later.  Simon Pollock would close out the scoring in the 2nd period with a goal at the 12:44 mark.  to make it 2-3 heading into the final period of the weekend. Holmstrom assisted on that goal as well.  The 3rd was all Aberdeen as Logan Gravink netted his 3rd of the season to tie things up at 3.  Sharun was credited with the assist.  Two minutes later Grant Kohnen would score the unassisted game winning goal.  Gage Stewart stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced.
