STURGIS, S.D. (WNAX) – South Dakota beef is again the official meat for this year’s 80th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The South Dakota Beef Industry Council is sponsoring The Beef, Brews and Bikers Throwdown featuring six breweries in the Black Hills that paired a beef entrée with a microbrew. The culinary competition was judged by ranchers and Celebrity Chef Justin Warner. He says the winner embodies South Dakota beef.
Les Shaw is a rancher near White Owl, and director on the South Dakota Beef Industry Council. He says the rally was a unique chance to showcase beef to consumers from all over the country.
Warner says entrees included burgers, brisket and even tacos, but every restaurant showed great respect for beef in their recipes.
Consumers could vote on the beef entrees and be entered to win prizes including Beef Bucks. The Throwdown winners will be announced on Aug. 17.
