PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- A team from Nebraska earned the title World Walleye Champions of the Masters Walleye Circuit during a tournament held last week on Lake Sharpe at Pierre.
At the end of Saturday’s weigh-ins, Tom Sieburg (see-burg) of Yutan and Curtis McCormick of Gurley had caught 36 pounds, 1 ounce of walleye over three days. Seiburg says the high wind the first two days was a challenge.
McCormick says they really didn’t have any experience fishing on Lake Sharpe prior to the tournament.
When it comes to their strategy for the tournament, Sieburg says they pretty much improvised.
The duo weighed in five fish each day, but McCormick says finding the big ones took some work.
The second place team had a three day total weight of 32 pounds, 14 ounces. The third place weight was 30 pounds, 11 ounces; fourth place was 30 pounds, 1 ounce; and fifth place was 28 pounds, 8 ounces.
