With Delta Variant of COVID-19 detected in SD, doctor talks the importance of being vacdinated

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Department of Health has confirmed that the Delta variant of the coronavirus has been detected in a person in Edmunds County.

Avera Health Chief Medical Officer Dr Kevin Post says they have been expecting it.

Post says the best strategy is to stay ahead of any infection outbreaks.

Post says there are still populations at risk from the variant.

Post says more people need to be vaccinated to avoid another spike in infections and hospitalizations. He says they would like to see the vaccination rate at seventy to eighty percent.
