Wolves Fall to #15th Ranked Yellow Jackets on New Years Day

Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – In their first game of the 2026 season, the Northern State University men’s basketball team fell to No. 15 Black Hills State from Wachs Arena. Northern overcame a double-digit deficit to tie the game early in the second, however Black Hills was able to capitalize during key possessions.

  • The Wolves scored 41 in the first and 29 in the second, while the Yellow Jackets tallied 45 in the first and 32 in the second
  • Northern shot 45.8% from the floor, including a season low 15.0% from the 3-point line, and 68.4% from the foul line in the game
  • They led the contest with 44 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers, and 15 points off the bench
  • BHSU out-rebounded NSU 38-28 in the game, scoring eight second chance points
  • The Wolves notched 17 assists and six steals in the game, giving up just 11 turnovers, while forcing 14
  • Joshua Book led three in double figures, scoring 22 points and dishing out a team leading five assists
  • James Glenn and Tobi Obiora followed with 13 points apiece, while Obiora led the team shooting 55.6% from the floor and pulled down eight rebounds
