Wolves Finish Regular Season With Another Clean Sheet

Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State women’s soccer team took down University of Mary, 1-0 in final regular season contest of 2023. The Wolves snapped a 6-game win streak for the Marauders and solidified hosting rights in the first round of the NSIC Tournament, which begins next week.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams played 60 minutes of scoreless soccer to open the contest, with the Northern State defense holding off numerous attacks by the University of Mary
  • The Wolves were outshot by the Marauders in total shots, 12-8 and in shots-on-goal, 8-2
  • Megan Fastenau made it count for the Wolves late in the game and broke the scoreless tie
  • Fastenau’s game winner hit the back left side of the net in the final three minutes of the game and was her fifth game winning goal in 2023
  • Alexus Townsend stood strong in the final minutes of the game, saving two shots by UMary; she earned her eighth shutout of the year
