Wolves Split With Jimmies in North Dakota

Jamestown, ND (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State baseball took to the diamond in Jamestown, N.D. to face the Jimmies in a midweek double-header. The Wolves split the games, losing the first and winning the second.

GAME ONE: NSU 9, UJ 10

  • Jamestown took the first lead of the game with three runs in the bottom of the second, a lead they’d never give up
  • Northern got on the board in the third via a Dillon Castellanos single that brough Kyle Konechne home
  • The Jimmies piled on four more scores in the third; UJ up 7-1
  • Collin Lott got NSU back to home plate with a home run to center field
  • Finishing out their scoring on the afternoon was Jamestown with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 10-2
  • In an attempt to comeback, Northern put up seven runs in the top of the sixth
    • Bases loaded brought Mateo Tahsini to the plate; Dalton Kesti walked home, 10-3 UJ
    • Easton Rerick was walked on the next at bat; Casey Vining scored, 10-4 UJ
    • The third straight walked batter was Jack WeidnerDrew Benson touched home, 10-5 UJ
    • A grand slam by Konechne made the score 10-9 UJ
  • NSU’s comeback fell short after two groundouts

GAME TWO: NSU 10, UJ 5

  • Northern State jumped out to the first lead of the game as they scored two runs in the fourth; Drew Benson singled to bring Collin Lott and Casey Vining home
  • Taking the lead was Jamestown as they responded fast with four scores of their own in the fourth
  • The Wolves put up one in the fifth due to a Kyle Konechne homer; they regained the advantage the next inning with a three-run Benson home run, NSU up 6-4
  • Jack Weidner added a run to the board for Northern State on a Jamestown error
  • After a Jimmie run in the sixth, Easton Rerick touched home plate on another UJ error; Northern – 8, Jamestown – 5
  • A wild pitch and a Lott home run in the eighth and nineth innings rounded out the scoring in game two, securing the 10-5 victory for the Wolves
