Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State University head coach Kaden Huntrods announced the addition of nine student-athletes to the swimming and diving roster for the fall. Eydie Bruestle (Delphi, Ind.), Jocelyn Dirksen (Lead, S.D.), Mazie Finch (Stillwater, Okla.), Laila Gordillo (Guayaquil, Ecuador), Marie Loest (Wichita, Kan.), Sidney Masgras (Round Rock, Texas), Emma Moore (Winfield, Kan.), Abbegael Nynas (Billings, Mont.), and Kenna Remily (Wahpeton, N.D.) are set to become Wolves.
“We are really excited for this class,” noted Huntrods. “We have a very diverse group of people and events coming in and that is going to help us get to where we need to be both in regular meets and conference competitions.”
Eydie Bruestle – Back, Delphi, Ind. / Delphi Community HS
Eydie Bruestle is a backstroke swimmer out of Delphi Community High School. She was a 3-year letterwinner for the Oracles under the direction of head coach Andrea Mayer-Bruestle. She holds personal best times of 1:01.14 in the 100 back, 59.05 in the 100 free, and 27.58 in the 50 free. Bruestle is a 3-time all-conference performer and a member of a conference championship team. She is the daughter of Andrea Mayer-Bruestle and Wayne Bruestle.
Jocelyn Dirksen – Fly, Lead, S.D. / Lead-Deadwood HS
Jocelyn Dirksen is a butterfly swimmer out of Lead-Deadwood High School. She was a 4-year letterwinner for the Gold Diggers. Dirksen won the 2021 State Championship in the 200 fly. In addition, she holds personal best times of 1:01.88 in the 100 fly, 2:19.35 in the 200 fly, and 1:10.94 in the 100 breast. She is the daughter of Sarah Dirksen.
Mazie Finch – Back/Free, Stillwater, Okla. / Stillwater HS
Mazie Finch is a backstroke and freestyle swimmer out of Stillwater High School. She was a 4-year letterwinner for the Pioneers under the direction of head coach Angela Knott. Finch holds personal bests of 1:03.34 in the 100 back, 56.55 in the 100 free, 2:20.90 in the 200 back, and 26.55 in the 50 free. She is a 3-time state finalist, placing as high as sixth in the 100 back. Competing with the American Energy Swim Club, Finch is a 4-time state qualifier. She is the daughter of Bryan and Amy Finch.
Laila Gordillo – Free/Back/IM, Guayaquil, Ecuador / Royal Hollow Academy
Laila Gordillo is a freestyle, backstroke, and individual medley swimmer out of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Gordillo was a 4-time member of the Guaya regional team and a member of the Ecuadorian National Team competing in Cali, Egypt, and Barranquilla. She holds short course personal best times of 26.70 in the 50 free, 56.16 in the 100 free, 30.15 in the 50 fly, and 1:05.91 in the 100 IM. She is the daughter of Neidys Sanchez and Giovanni Gordillo.
Marie Loest – Breast/IM, Wichita, Kan. / Wichita North HS
Marie Loest is a breaststroke and individual medley swimmer out of Wichita North High School. She was a 4-year letterwinner for the Redhawks under the direction of head coach Melody Turley. Loest is a 4-time all-city first team recipient and 2-time GWAL City League Champion in the 100 breaststroke. She is the daughter of Ed and Jami Loest.
Sidney Masgras – Fly/Free, Round Rock, Texas / Vista Ridge HS
Sidney Masgras is a butterfly and distance freestyle swimmer out of Vista Ridge High School. She was a 4-year letterwinner for the Rangers. Masgras holds personal bests of 1:00.74 in the 100 fly and 5:27.00 in the 500 free. In addition, she is a championships, sectionals, and STAGS qualifying swimmer. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Cristian Masgras.
Emma Moore – Free, Winfield, Kan. / Winfield HS
Emma Moore is a freestyle swimmer out of Winfield High School. She was a 4-year letterwinner for the Vikings under the direction of head coach Dustin Durbin. Moore is a 3-year state qualifier and individual medalist. She won AVCTL Championships in the 50 free and 200 free, and finished as the runner-up in the 100 free, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 50 free. In addition, Moore is a 2-time all-state selection and holds school record times in the 200 free (1:57.99) and 500 free (5:24.24). Winfield High School won the AVCTL Championship in 2023. With the Wichita Swim Club, Moore is a pro-am team member and short course and long course team champion. She is the daughter of Kami and Charlie Moore.
Abbegael Nynas – Free/Back, Billings, Mont. / Skyview HS
Abbegael Nynas is a freestyle and backstroke swimmer out of Skyview High School. She was a 3-year letterwinner for the Falcons under the direction of head coach Adam Greenwell. Nynas is both a section qualifier and state champion. She was a 2-time MHSA All-State selection. In addition, her club program, the Billings Aquatic Club are 3-time state champions. She is the daughter of Marc and Suzette Nynas; Suzette is a Northern State alum.
Kenna Remily – Free, Wahpeton, N.D. / Wahpeton HS
Kenna Remily is a distance freestyle swimmer out of Wahpeton High School. She was a 6-year letterwinner for the Huskies under the direction of head coaches Heather Henn and Anne Retzlaff. Remily is a North Dakota State qualifier at both the high school and club competition levels. She is the daughter of Jeremy and Shana Remily; Shana is a Northern State graduate.
