Wolves Wrestling Gets Great Results In Jamestown

Jamestown, ND (NSUWolves.com) – The (RV) Northern State University wrestling team opened their 2024-25 season Saturday at the Jamestown Jimmie Open. The Wolves tallied 13 top-5 finishes and added three sixth place finishes, scoring 207.5 team points. Twenty Wolves took on the Jimmie Open with Mason Fey leading the way, winning the 174-pound title.
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR FEY
  • Fey opened his day with a 1:59 victory by fall over Harrison Grad of Bismarck State College
  • The 174-pounder rolled through the quarter and semifinal rounds with bonus point wins over Anthony Sykora of MSU Moorhead (maj 11-1) and Alex Kowalchyk of NDSU (TF 16-0)
  • He captured the Jimmie Open title, defeating Mason Gode of MSU Moorhead in a 16-2 major decision
WOLVES SECOND PLACE FINISHERS
  • Karstyn Lhotak finished as the 141-pound runner up, going 2-1 with 14 team points scored; he recorded wins over Riley Fitzsimmons of USF (dec 7-4) and Owen Lonski of UMary (maj 15-3)
  • Carter Ban went 3-1 at 149-pounds finishing as the runner-up with 16.5 team points and wins over Brendan Winn-Kelley of Bismarck State College (maj 18-4), Maverick Mueller of UMary (TF 24-4), and Anthony Nunes of UMary (maj 15-4)
  • Damen Pape went 3-1 for the Wolves and scored 16.5 points at 184-pounds, defeating Kale Farrington of Minot State (fall 2:40), Joey Mushinsky of UMary (TF 19-4), and Wayne Mellon of MSU Moorhead (dec 7-6)
WOLVES THIRD PLACE FINISHERS
  • Teagan Block went 3-1 on the day and scored 15 team points with wins over Jacob Christianson of UMary (maj 11-0), Johnny Colon of Jamestown (TF 17-2) and Corbin Roe (TF 15-0) in the third place match
  • Competing at 149-pounds Cole Holien tallied his first competition as a Wolf with a 3-1 record and 15.0 team points en route to his third place finish; he tallied wins over Christian Ramos of Bismarck State College (fall 0:35), Lane Fink of USF (dec 4-2), and Anthony Nunes of UMary (fall 0:38)
  • Griffin Lundeen notched the third top-3 finish competing at 157-pounds with 16.0 points and a 4-1 record; he record wins over Marshall Liindgren (TF 15-0), Danyk Jacobsen of UMary (maj 9-0), Lincoln Fink of USF (TF 20-3), and Ryan Hrcka of Minot State (maj 9-0)
  • Tyson Lien added a third place finish, going 2-1 with 12.5 points at 197-pounds and wins over Stetson Davis of USF (TF 15-0) and teammate Ryan Hirschkorn (dec 4-1)
  • Nathan Schauer capped off the third place finishers with wins over Malakai Robinson of Jamestown (fall 2:25), Jose Reyes of UMary (dec 4-1), and teammate Ayden Viox (dec 7-2) to score 13 team points
 
WOLVES FOURTH PLACE FINISHERS
  • Kaden Broer went 2-2 on the day, taking fourth at 165-pounds with wins over John Armstrong of Minot State (dec 10-8) and Jesiah Townsell of MSU Moorhead (dec 10-6)
  • Ryan Hirschkorn finished fourth in the 197 bracket with a 9-3 decision win over Marco Reyes of UMary
  • Ayden Viox wrapped up the day with a fourth place finish at 285-pounds, defeating Aidyn Mitchell of UMary in a 5-1 decision prior to a pair of decision losses
 
WOLVES FIFTH PLACE FINISHERS
  • Sloan Johannsen scored 12.5 team points for his fifth place finish at 125 pounds with a 4-1 record and wins over Jaxton Packer of USF (dec 18-11), Daniel Parra of USF (TF 15-0), Isaac Stewart of UMary (TF 19-0), and Packer again with a 15-0 technical fall in the fifth place match
 
WOLVES SIXTH PLACE FINISHERS
  • Rayden Zens debuted his NSU career with nine team points and a 2-2 record, notching wins over Jacob Christianson of UMary (fall 2:58) and Jack Coles of Bismarck State (fall 2:11) in the 133 pound bracket
  • Nik Petsinger added two wins over Riley Fitzsimmons of USF (dec 7-5) and Sebastian Castin of USF (dec 11-9) in the 141 pound bracket for 5.5 team points and a sixth place finish
  • Izaak Hunsley took sixth in the 165-pound bracket with wins over Dante Hutchings of NDSU (dec 7-6), Izac Turner of Bismarck State College (TF 16-0), and Jacob Thomas of MSU Moorhead (dec 12-6)
 
UP NEXT
Northern returns to action next Saturday, November 9 at the DWU Open. The Wolves will then open their home slate on Thursday, November 14 hosting the Tigers at 7 p.m. in Wachs Arena.
